As the Trustees of the Benefits of Film plan, we’re always looking for ways to improve your benefits coverage and overall experience with the plan. Your feedback from the member engagement survey done in 2020 provided us some really helpful insights. After the survey was complete, we reviewed the requests, issues and comments made by members through the union and J&D Benefits. And finally, we also conducted a thorough review with our benefits consultant to look at gaps and opportunities for improvement in our plan. We’re happy to share below some valuable enhancements to your coverage.

What’s new for the 2022-2023 plan year

1. REHAB AND DETOX FOR DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
Increased from $10,000 → $20,000 per person, per lifetime.
This benefit is reimbursed at 70%, and is retroactive to January 1, 2021.

2. NEW! SUPPLEMENTARY DRUG PLAN
As of May 1, 2022, you have a new supplementary drug plan, payable at 80%*, which includes an additional 11,000 DINs (Drug Identification Numbers) that are not covered by your current base plan.

Here’s how your drug plan now works…
  • YOUR BASE PLAN (current drug plan) is payable at 100%*.
It matches the British Columbia Fair Pharmacare Formulary and covers approximately 5,000 DINs.

  • YOUR SUPPLEMENTARY PLAN is payable at 80%*.
It’s a new, comprehensive addition (implemented by TELUS’s Complete Managed Formulary) that covers approximately 16,000 DINs.

Have you been prescribed a new medication?

You can check whether it’s covered by accessing the Canada Life GroupNet website or app and using the DIN lookup tool. The lookup tool will also let you know whether the drug is covered under your base or supplementary plan!

Drugs and / or drug supplies are covered only if they’re prescribed by a person entitled by law to prescribe them; dispensed by a person entitled by law to dispense them; and are provided in Canada. If you need drugs and / or drug supplies when you’re outside Canada, these are payable under the out-of-country provisions set out in your benefits plan.

The health and wellbeing of our members is at the forefront of all our decision-making. As always, we’ll continue monitoring the plan prudently to ensure its strength and stability – and, more importantly, to ensure your benefits are there for you when you need them.

*Coverage level for members of the 60+ still apply to the drug formularies. For example, if a member has 50% coverage in the 60+ plan, drugs will be paid at 50% for the base plan and 40% for the supplementary plan.
